Success With Safety

The KB Custom Ag Service’s “Harvest Safety First” program instituted in 2015 continues to carry great success in meeting our company’s safety goals.  A 2015 grant from the Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) Grants Program was used to foster our goal to be “champions” of worker safety and health in an industry (forage harvesting) that invites many opportunities for injury or fatality.

By raising awareness through regular safety trainings, our “Harvest Safety First” program has served to dramatically reduce our overall accident rate throughout the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Our safety program starts with a mandatory annual employee orientation day, where we spend extended time with current employees and new hires sharing newsfeeds and photos of accidents or deaths that have occurred across the nation during silage harvesting.  Discussion on risks and avoidance is held, company safety policies are reviewed followed by the viewing of a powerful video created by U.S. Custom Harvesters on forage harvest safety.

We are grateful to the Ag Safety and Health Council of America and to the U.S. Custom Harvesters organization for their support of our ongoing “Harvest Safety First” campaign.  We highly recommend the U.S. Custom Harvesters Forage Harvest Safety video to others.  It can be purchased from their website at

KB Custom Ag Receives Safety Grant from Ag Safety and Health Council of America!

The Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) Safety Grants Program has awarded KB Custom Ag Services with a $10,0000 safety grant intended to foster new “champions” of worker safety and health.   From an article in the Progressive Forage Harvester Magazine, “Few farming operations invite as many different opportunities for injury or fatality as a silage program”.   Although not all of the risk that comes with silage harvesting can be eliminated, KB Custom Ag Services’ philosophy is that by raising awareness through safety trainings, producers and harvesters can dramatically reduce the chance of accidents to themselves, family members, employees and visitors.

KB Custom Ag Services campaign, “HARVEST SAFETY FIRST!” will provide needed and critical education on harvest safety during two training sessions being offered in 2015.  Trainers and sponsors will conduct their first session in the Texas panhandle in mid-May.  Invitations to both sessions will be extended to other harvesters and producers throughout the nation.

Sponsors of the “HARVEST SAFETY FIRST!” campaign include:  Nationwide Insurance, First National Bank of Las Animas, House Trucking Insurance, Great West Insurance, and Mountain Plains Insurance Agency.

Watch for all details posted to this website!  Thank you to ASHCA for supporting our safety endeavors!

TEXAS BOUND!!!!  Our 2015 silage harvest kicked off in Central Texas last week.  More silage cutters and trucks pulled out of the yard today headed to Dalhart, Texas after what seemed and felt like a very brief winter.  We’re both anxious and excited to start our 2015 silage harvest run, and look forward to the opportunity to once again serve our many great customers throughout the Midwest.
